District heating plant, Luttach / Lutago
Project description
As a consequence of various expansions of the network and an increase in its density, the Luttach district heating plant was pushed to its limits, thus necessitating an expansion of the plant. This expansion consisted of a biomass boiler (with a nominal generating capacity of 2,000 kW) and a buffer storage unit (with a volume of 111 cubic meters), both of which were installed in an add-on. The new buffer storage unit made it possible to cover, to a large extent, power demand peaks in the winter months. This, in combination with the new boiler, made it possible to reduce the operation of the existent heating oil-fueled boiler to a minimum. Additionally, the plant's overall supply reliability was boosted and emissions of air pollutants significantly reduced.
