Project description

The "Mother Teresa of Calcutta" religious center consists of a church, a parish center, and a rectory. The church comprises four cubical structures having different heights; the parish center is designed a broad two-story building; and the rectory is a narrow, three-story structure. The three buildings form an enclosed architectural complex on account of the connecting wall on the south side, the single courtyard access on the north side, and the consistent use of the same materials for all of the buildings.
Structural engineering: The four cubical structures with different heights forming the church are made of light-weight constructional concrete; in the interior, together with a lower, cross-shaped steel box girder, these cubes join to form the supporting structure by activating the entire roofscape. This supporting structure spans – without supporting beams – the inside of the church. Support-free area: 46.5 m x 28 m; Franki bored piles as foundation piles; rear-ventilated façade made of natural stone.
