Avalanche Protection Gallery on the SS 508, "Sarntal" Valley
Project description
To provide permanent protection for the Sarntal state road, an approximately 255 m long avalanche protection gallery was constructed between Streiterhof and Pichlerhof. The structure consists of a closed section and a section open on the valley side, reliably protecting the important road connection to Pens, Rötenberg, Sack and Asten from avalanche events.
As part of the overall project, the existing deflection dams were enlarged, the road alignment was adapted, access roads were reorganised, and the Rötenbergbach stream was diverted and stabilised. Bus stops and a garage for a snow-clearing vehicle were also integrated into the project. Particular attention was paid to ensuring that the structure blends harmoniously into the alpine landscape.
