Project description

The center of St. Andrä is heavily burdened by through traffic. The very narrow through road made it very difficult for semitrailer trucks and buses to pass through and therefore blocked the center for other road users and also for pedestrians.
The new bypass will relieve the center of the village from heavy traffic and through traffic and thus bring more quality of life for the citizens.
For the realization of the St. Andrä bypass, a European project planning competition was announced. The winning project is characterized by its simplicity. By using a traditional construction method, the costs could be kept low. In order to better integrate the structure into the landscape, the project provides for a cone-shaped abutment made of reinforced concrete and a special treatment of the wall surface. The total length of the construction project is 128 m with a 37 m long and 6 m wide bridge over the Trametsch River. Due to the steep and high terrain, a special procedure was necessary for the installation of the steel girders.
