Project description

This project concerns the new construction of the "Adda" bridge along the Pedemontana highway in Lombardy. It includes two separate bridge structures for the road traffic and railroad, respectively. Both the highway and the railroad emanate on the (orographically) right-hand side of the Adda River from a tunnel. They then continue over the river and across the valley in harmony with the landscape. The highway bridge (consisting of a double street platform) and the railroad bridge cross the valley, and have a total length of about 760 meters. The cross-sections of the supporting structures have a hollow-box design; in the case of the railroad, these are single hollow boxes, and for the highway, double hollow boxes. In order to enhance the torsional rigidity, the separate hollow-box support structures are connected with each other by cross beams; this permits the controlled introduction of load in the area of the supports.
